THE REVIVAL OF REPENTENCE

TRUE REVIVAL

Psa 85:1 LORD, thou hast been favourable unto thy land: thou hast brought back the captivity of Jacob.
Psa 85:2 Thou hast forgiven the iniquity of thy people, thou hast covered all their sin. Selah.
Psa 85:3 Thou hast taken away all thy wrath: thou hast turned thyself from the fierceness of thine anger.
Psa 85:4 Turn us, O God of our salvation, and cause thine anger toward us to cease.
Psa 85:5 Wilt thou be angry with us for ever? wilt thou draw out thine anger to all generations?
Psa 85:6 Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee?
Psa 85:7 Shew us thy mercy, O LORD, and grant us thy salvation.
Psa 85:8 I will hear what God the LORD will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints: but let them not turn again to folly.
Psa 85:9 Surely his salvation is nigh them that fear him; that glory may dwell in our land.
Psa 85:10 Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.
Psa 85:11 Truth shall spring out of the earth; and righteousness shall look down from heaven.
Psa 85:12 Yea, the LORD shall give that which is good; and our land shall yield her increase.
Psa 85:13 Righteousness shall go before him; and shall set us in the way of his steps.

God’s mercy to His children is revealed in this Psalm, as He extends His righteousness and forgiveness to those who seek His face. In Jesus Christ, that righteousness and peace have “kissed” each other and we can receive the revival we seek, and which is available only in Him alone.

The first Adam was made a living soul, but the last Adam was made a quickening Spirit. (1 Cor. 15:45) In Adam, all die, but in Christ Jesus shall all be made alive. (1 Cor. 15:22) Jesus said in Joh 6:63: It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. Here we learn that the way to true revival is through the Word of God, in Christ. Fallen man is the first Adam, the revived, new creation is life in Christ.

According to Strong’s Concordance H2421, “revive” is defined as: “to live, keep, alive, preserve, quicken.”

A repetitive theme throughout all of scripture is the condition of repentance. This must occur if a person wants relationship with God.

“Repent, the Kingdom of God is at Hand”

The apostles and prophets of God all expressed the same Word from Heaven -- repent! In Acts 2:38, Peter tells us to, “Repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” If we repent, and are baptized, we will receive the Spirit. God gives the Holy Spirit to those that obey Him. Acts 5:32 God now makes his dwelling place within the life of the believer. We are forgiven of past sins, sanctified and cleansed, by the washing of water by the Word and then we are revived, and are made alive, quickened by the power and Word who is Christ Jesus. John 20:22, Jesus breathed on His disciples and said, “Receive ye the Holy Spirit.”

So many in the Church are crying to God for revival, praying to see more power in their lives and to witness His grace to unbelievers. We read the scriptures and see the authority and imbuement of God’s force and strength displayed, and wonder why so many of us do not see these events occurring today. Does God change? Or, does man? Do we worship the same Jesus as the scriptures teach us? Are we walking in the Light, as He is in the Light? Are we accepting the conviction the Holy Spirit brings to our minds, or are we resisting Him? Are we serious about our faith? Have we left our first love? Is God first and foremost, above all in our lives? Are we living our faith? Are we studying God’s Word and allowing the Spirit to teach us? Do we test our ministers and are the books we read held up to the standard of scripture? Are we broken before Him, crying out in a humble and contrite spirit? Have we: 2Co 6:17 “…come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, 2Co 6:18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. These are hard questions to ask, but, we must examine ourselves to see if we are in the faith. 2 Cor. 13:5. This is the Way of the Word. This is what Jesus Christ taught us. This is deeper life.

If we are, then HE will give us rest. That rest is the spiritual condition of the overcomer, living his life glorifying the Father. Just as there can be no forgiveness without the shedding of blood, which was accomplished by our beloved Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, there can be no revival without repentance. When we follow the Lamb wherever He goes, we can ask anything in His name and God will do it. This is His promise. This is His Word.

Psa 80:3 Turn us again, O God, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.
Psa 80:4 O LORD God of hosts, how long wilt thou be angry against the prayer of thy people?
Psa 80:5 Thou feedest them with the bread of tears; and givest them tears to drink in great measure.
Psa 80:6 Thou makest us a strife unto our neighbours: and our enemies laugh among themselves.
Psa 80:7 Turn us again, O God of hosts, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.
Psa 80:8 Thou hast brought a vine out of Egypt: thou hast cast out the heathen, and planted it.
Psa 80:9 Thou preparedst room before it, and didst cause it to take deep root, and it filled the land.
Psa 80:10 The hills were covered with the shadow of it, and the boughs thereof were like the goodly cedars.
Psa 80:11 She sent out her boughs unto the sea, and her branches unto the river.
Psa 80:12 Why hast thou then broken down her hedges, so that all they which pass by the way do pluck her?
Psa 80:13 The boar out of the wood doth waste it, and the wild beast of the field doth devour it.
Psa 80:14 Return, we beseech thee, O God of hosts: look down from heaven, and behold, and visit this vine;
Psa 80:15 And the vineyard which thy right hand hath planted, and the branch that thou madest strong for thyself.
Psa 80:16 It is burned with fire, it is cut down: they perish at the rebuke of thy countenance.
Psa 80:17 Let thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand, upon the son of man whom thou madest strong for thyself.
Psa 80:18 So will not we go back from thee: quicken us, and we will call upon thy name.
Psa 80:19 Turn us again, O LORD God of hosts, cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.
Psa 138:7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me: thou shalt stretch forth thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies, and thy right hand shall save me.
Isa 57:15 For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.
Hos 6:2 After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.
Hos 14:7 They that dwell under his shadow shall return; they shall revive as the corn, and grow as the vine: the scent thereof shall be as the wine of Lebanon.
